We’ve recently had some drama at my house. (With 4 girls, the drama can be pretty intense.) To cheer up the younger girls, my teenager played a silly youtube cartoon song about unicorns and rainbows. It worked like a charm. I’ve had the dubious privilege of hearing that silly song over and over again, any time someone feels upset.

But I’m okay with that, because it makes us happy.

While I don’t subscribe to the unicorn rainbow channel, I have my own go-to songs when I need a little cheer in my life. One of my favorites is Lemonade by Alex Boyé:

“When life gives you lemons, instead of champagne. Don’t worry, little children, and don’t complain. Remember, you’re golden, so find some sugar cane. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”

It’s a fun, upbeat song that I play over and over—and sing to my kids—when times are tough. Because when I sing that song, I just can’t help but smile. It makes my day a little brighter.

How does music make your life a little brighter?
